Meet a DJ Who Rocks…Katie!
When people ask “What do you do?” how do you answer?
Create lasting memories through music!
What did you do before you did this?
I’m a performer at different theme parks and a children’s theatre here in Florida, so I was doing that as well as working as a show host/activities coordinator for different companies.
When and how did you get into the wedding industry?
I sort of fell into it. I had wanted to learn to DJ, but the opportunity never presented itself to me. Then I reached out to a friend working for Our DJ Rocks, and one thing led to another. It was the perfect fit!
How did your work evolve to get you to where you are today?
I am a performer first, but I’ve ALWAYS been very organized, and I love working at and running events. I also am very committed to excellence, which probably comes from my extensive background with large-scale companies that expect perfection from you. I’m ultimately a committed person, which blends with the other attributes I bring to the table.
DJing is a perfect blend of all the things I like to do with the added bonus of making couples and clients happy, which in turn that makes me happy! With all the things I have accomplished and learned through my work before and after joining Our DJ Rocks, I think I’ve found a higher sense of purpose and live intentionally through every step towards my “end game” as I like to call it.
What is your favorite thing about what you do? What’s your WHY?
I never had a job or a career move that I didn’t truly love or commit to. DJing is no different, I really enjoy all the aspects of events. It keeps me on my toes, connects me with so many people, and I have always had music in my life in a big way (ask me about it sometime) since I was born. In the grand scheme of things, I know that my end game for my career isn’t necessarily to DJ, but it IS to lead, create, and inspire people. I intend to make a difference and have an impact on those around me. DJing and working in the field is a fun and enlightening way to do that! I don’t see myself not DJing in some capacity as the years pass.
Tell us about your most memorable event so far and why it was memorable.
I have so many!! I think my first wedding, only because it wasn’t even supposed to be my first. It was an urgent need and some changes had to be made ASAP, so I jumped in with both feet and it was actually SUCH a lovely wedding. Later that year I had another event with the same couple, and it was like I was part of a family reunion. I still talk to them today. That will always be a huge part of my growth and a lesson in “be ready for anything.”
What’s the best part of your job?
Playing music and making connections with people. I basically want to be friends with everyone!
What motivates you to do this everyday?
I am creating a lasting memory for my clients, every one of them special, every one of them wanting a perfect day. Whether it’s a wedding, a corporate getaway, or a private house party, every client deserves a BEST DAY EVER. I intend to make that happen.
What fun fact would people be surprised to learn about you?
Well, I DID climb a live volcano once… but I think it’s more interesting that I had already traveled and performed in 13 different states by the age of 11. I have a lot of fun stories, let’s chat! Haha!
What is the best compliment you’ve received from your clients?
“Omg I love you already…” after being on the phone for only five minutes!
What are the most common questions you get asked by brides and/or grooms?
“What would YOU do?”
Best piece of advice for brides or grooms.
This is YOUR DAY. Whatever vibe you want to achieve on one of the best days of your life, do that. Everything will come together to be the BEST DAY EVER!
