When people ask “what do you do?”, how do you answer?
I’m a DJ who specializes in making lasting memories.
What did you do before you did this?
I did (and do) perform in Orlando as an actor/singer.
When and how did you get into the wedding industry? Partially accidental. I knew I wanted to learn to DJ, and my friend worked for Our DJ Rocks for years. The spot was open and the opportunity fell right in my lap, so I took a chance and what a great choice to accept the challenge!
How did your work evolve to get you to where you are today?
I think because I’ve always had music involvement as well as hosting and that “entertainer” vibe since I was little, the choice to start DJ work was a natural one!
What is your favorite thing about what you do? What is your WHY?
I really love creating playlists for people! And I really like when a bride has that pure look of joy on her face! Like, “yes, this is literally the best day ever and Katie is playing all our favorites!”
Tell us about your most memorable event so far.
I’ve had a few really fun ones! I will say my very first wedding I ever did, the family and I got along so well and I couldn’t have asked for a better break into the industry. I then saw the couple for a second event later this year and it was like a little reunion!
What’s the best part of your job?
The fact that I get to be labeled a DJ. I mean, what?!?!?! But seriously, I think just knowing at the end of the day you made a difference.
What motivates you to do this every day?
Even on the toughest days, I ask, “what would I want my wedding to feel like?” and it always inspires me to go the extra mile.
What fun fact would most people be surprised to learn about you?
I listen to gospel music and sing it loudly in my car…and it’s mostly African gospel. In fact, I absolutely love other cultures and their musical history!
What is the best compliment you’ve received from your clients?
After 4 minutes on the phone… “I love you already.”
What are the most common questions you get asked by brides/grooms?
“What song would YOU choose?” and “Do people usually do this or that?”
Best piece of advice for brides and/or grooms?
It is your day, 100%. You and your fiance do this once and once only, so picture the most perfect scenario and communicate that to me. I can make the music happen and help create the vibe you need. Don’t be scared to be different or out of the box, be as creative as you like. You and me together can create the Best Day Ever!
