Meet a DJ Who Rocks…Emily!

Our DJ Rocks group shot featuring Emily

We believe that being a DJ and MC is more than curating the perfect song or knowing the perfect mix. It’s about personality! We dug in to get to know Orlando DJ Emily just a little bit more!

We

met Emily in April of 2015 when she was first starting to plan her wedding to her then-fiancé Tucker. There was an instant connection with her and us. She said she wanted fun music that everyone—young and old—could dance and groove to during reception and cocktail hour. Fast forward to fall 2016 and she went from Miss to Mrs., continuing her career with Radio Disney and the Disney brands.

Just like most, she saw a post that Our DJ Rocks was looking for a DJ and was curious, so she reached out on December 28, 2016. As part of her DJ application, we ask for applicants to name as many ’80s songs as they can and her list was quite impressive, not to mention she included 50 Cent and Britney Spears in her artists from 2000s and could name every member of N*SYNC. YASSS Queen!

We instantly fell in love with Emily because of her positivity and have LOVED working with her. She has been DJing with us since her DJ career begin in February 2017 and she is now taking the lead as a DJ and Wedding MC.

So take a few minutes to read our interview with DJ Emily. We’re sure you’ll love her as much as we do!

Meet Emily

When people ask “what do you do” how do you answer?
I help make magic happen through music and get people out on the dance floor as a DJ and MC!

What did you do before you did this?
I worked with Disney for 6 1/2 years, starting at RadioDisney, then going to Disneyland, and then to Walt Disney World doing a variety of roles.

When and how did you get into the wedding industry?
I was an Our DJ Rocks bride!! I had done event planning and hospitality management in school as well.

How did your work evolve to get you to where you are today?
When I started with RadioDisney, I was a part of their promotions team as a Road Crew member. Playing music at a bunch of different of events gave me such joy that I knew I wanted to return to something similar.

What is your favorite thing about what you do? What’s your WHY?
As a person in everyday life, I always want to be the reason that someone has a smile on their face, so if I can accomplish that with my events, I know that I’m doing something right.

Tell us about your most memorable event so far and why it was.
I assisted with a wedding at Ceviche in downtown Orlando with DJ Jennie and the bride and groom (Patty and Chris) LOVED the band the Dirty Heads SO much that they surprised their guests with a video from the Dirty Heads themselves giving them their announcement to the reception.

What’s the best part of your job?
Being able to make a personal connection with our clients and be a part of their core memories.

What motivates you to do this everyday?
Being proud of where I work and being valued as a person within the workplace motivates me to give my all to our clients.

What fun fact would people be surprised to learn about you?
I am really obsessed with pirates. When the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie came out in 2003, I saw it 11 times in the movie theaters and have worn out two copies of the DVD.

What is the best compliment you’ve received from your clients?
When a client says, “I trust you. I know you know what you’re doing!”

What are the most common questions you get asked by brides and/or grooms?
The most obvious question: What kind of music do I personally listen to? The answer: I have an eclectic taste in music, it depends on my mood. I usually have the “Have a Great Day” playlist on Spotify on.

Best piece of advice for brides or grooms.
Take a chance to just be with each other for a few moments on your wedding day to soak it in as newlyweds. This is going to be a day you’ll remember forever as long as you soak it in.

Big thanks to Gian Carlo Photography for the amazing photos he took of Emily and our team!
